Sumpter Township police are investigating the disappearance of several outdoor Christmas decorations over the weekend.

According to investigators, several blow up displays and a nativity scene were stolen from outside of the victims’ home.

One of the victims, John Milner, lives along Judd Road. He had just put up quite the Christmas display outside days before Thanksgiving.

“We had a blow up train, a train that got stolen, and a couple of lighted deer,” said John.

Then over the weekend, a Grinch came along.

“We were just dumbstruck.  We were awestruck. We didn’t - just really took us by surprise,” said John. “It just took the wind out of my sails because I look forward - that’s the one thing I look forward to doing every year.

According to Sumpter Township Police, the thief or thieves struck three times.

“We had the blow up ornaments along Judd Road,” said Officer Elizabeth Egerer. “We also had, you’re not going to believe this, but we had a Mary and Jesus and Joseph stolen from down toward Judd in Rawsonville.”

It’s unclear why the people responsible would steal not only families’ holiday decorations, but also their Christmas spirit.

Police told 7 Action News they are determined to find out why and who did it.

“We’ll keep an eye out,” said Officer Egerer.  “We have officers that will be checking that area. We will be increasing our patrols so that we make sure that if we do come across somebody we can return the items to our victims.”

Meanwhile John has this to say to the person who snatched up his holiday cheer.

“I would have gave it to them,” said John. “I’m the type of person who would say, 'Hey, we would have just given him the stuff. If we had that we would have just given to him.' You work hard for stuff.  Why would somebody do that?”

Right now police have no suspects in custody and no suspects have been identified, but they are asking for the public’s help.
