Grosse Pointe Farms stabbing suspect is ex-con

Posted

The 49-year-old suspect in the stabbing attack on Daniel Clancy is an ex-con who, according to a source, torched his vehicle in Detroit as part of an attempt to get rid of evidence.

Clancy's estate manager tells 7 Action News that the suspect, who is now under arrest, is a man who once cleaned the gutters of the mansion.

The suspect returned to the house on a couple of occasions, hoping to do additional work, but the estate manager says Clancy told him to never allow the man on the property again.

We're told cufflinks and paintings were stolen Sunday. The robber also tried stealing a statue, but it was too heavy to remove from the house.

Police say the suspect is a drug addict who overdosed on heroin in Eastpointe. He was tracked down at St. John Hospital where officers placed him under arrest.

Clancy remains in critical condition after Sunday afternoon's attack that began inside his home where someone tried to bind him with duct tape.

Clancy was able to escape. He fled outside his home where he may have been stabbed again.

A passerby saw Clancy lying on the ground and called police.
