The Taylor School District wants to consolidate its two high schools.
Proponents of the idea say financially it's the smart thing to do.
If things go as planned John F. Kennedy High School will be shut down in the next few years.
Tonight’s town hall meeting was held in the dark as the power was out at Truman High School, but that didn't stop the show.
The hot topic of discussion was closing John F. Kennedy High School and moving the students to Truman High School and renaming it Taylor High School.
The district is in crisis mode thanks to a decline in population and a decline in enrollment. School administrators say its just not financially responsible for the city of Taylor to have two high schools.
Right now, both Kennedy and Truman have less than a thousand students each. But putting all those students under one roof isn’t sitting well with some parents.
The school district is also proposing going from a 5-hour day to a 6-hour day so students can take more electives.
