If you've ever wanted to work as a police officer or sheriff's deputy, Wayne County is looking for you.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is hosting a hiring event on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is looking for 100 officers. They fee for the physical test, which can be taken at the event, will also be waived.

The tests will take place at the Wayne State Athletics Multi-purpose annex facility at 5101 John C. Lodge Service Dr.

The physical test must be completed in five minutes, 35 seconds and includes:

  • Climb up and down a four-step staircase 15 times
  • Run 330 feet around six cones
  • Drag a 165-pound dummy 45 feet.

If you pass the physical test, you can also take the written tests and submit a job application to expedite the hiring process.

New officers at the jails are paid a salary of $29,698 with applicable pay increases, according to the office.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, bring a driver's license and a signed note from their doctor approving participation.
