An elderly woman is lucky to be alive after being mauled by two pit bulls.

Woodhaven police say that woman was walking her dog when the two pit bulls attacked.

If it weren’t for her husband racing to the scene - she may have been killed.

The 73-year-old woman’s husband saw what was happening - then shot and killed one of the dogs.

It happened in the 22000 block of Foxcroft Street in Woodhaven on Wednesday.

Police say the woman’s husband, saw what happening rushed to the scene and then shot and killed one of the pit bulls. The second ran off but was captured and is now in the possession of animal control.

The elderly victim suffered about 40 puncture wounds. Her Labrador was also treated for puncture wounds.

A family member told us the victim and her dog are expected to make a full recovery.

It’s unclear whether or not any charges will be brought against the owner of those two pit bulls.
