A Rochester man and his wife are $1 million richer after they matched five numbers on Saturday's Powerball jackpot drawing.
Jeffery Grayson, 56, won the jackpot with a ticket he bought at the Rochester Hills Meijer on Rochester Rd. He matched the first five numbers: 16-19-32-34-57.
According to Grayson, he was standing in the checkout line when his wife, Linda, reminded him to get the Powerball tickets.
“I stepped over to the service counter and bought two tickets, but only gave Linda one of the tickets," he said.
On Sunday morning, Linda got up and checked her ticket, but didn't win anything. When she told Jeffery that a $1 million ticket was sold at the Meijer, he said his heart started racing.
“When Linda left the room, I checked my ticket and started screaming for her to come back in! Neither of us could believe what we were seeing. We took a photo of the ticket and sent it to a few people and asked them to confirm we had won $1 million," he said.
The couple said they plan to spend the jackpot paying off their debt, investing in their retirement and even buying a few tickets for Wednesday's $1.4 billion Powerball jackpot.
“We’ll play again on Wednesday,” Jeffery said. “Winning $1 million is certainly life changing, but winning $1.3 billion would turn our lives upside down, in a good way!”
