The Detroit Repertory Theatre is more than a cultural gem, it's a space where unity unites and it's happening in a neighborhood on Detroit's west side.
Thousands of people visit the small theater each year. When they visit, they can't avoid seeing the blight across the street.
"That building has been dilapidated for ten years. It's been slated to be torn down," said Bruce Millan.
The eyesore is overshadowing the good things going on in the neighborhood, which include a community garden and health center.
The organization Dream of Detroit has partnered with the theater and neighbors to see the neighborhood thrive once again. The vacant commercial building is holding back progress.
"It's open, the roof is caved into the basement, it needs to be taken down," said Program Director Mark Crain.
7 Action News reporter Ronnie Dahl tracked down the owner.
