A rookie Detroit police officer has been terminated for an offensive message he allegedly posted on Snapchat.

According to Detroit police, 27-year-old Sean Bostwick snapped a photo of himself in his uniform along with a caption that says "another night to Rangel [SIC] up these zoo animals.”

The officer had only been on the force for two months, police said.

DPD Chief James Craig said he was appalled and shocked.

"When you make a statement like this, what's the message?" Craig said.

Craig said Bostwick expressed a great deal of remorse, but Craig said being a service organization, they have high expectations.

"Those who harbor these types of feelings, you're not welcome here," he said.
