ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WXYZ) — Roseville detectives are investigating a possible scam where a man is reportedly soliciting donations for a fraudulent charity.

The charity noted during the encounters is called "Detroit Reads Kids."

Police say there have been three incidents over the past few weeks - the businesses involved have been located on Gratiot between 12 Mile and Common Road.

Police say the interactions generally follow this scenario:

The man enters the business and asks for a manager by name. He then tells the manager that a donation has been approved by another manager, who is not at the location. He also shows literature indicating that other businesses have made donations.

In one incident, a $40 donation was made and the man provided a receipt to the business. It was discovered later that there had been no donation approved by the manager who was not at the location.

Police say the individual presents himself in a professional manner during the interactions.

Roseville police are not aware of any similar incidents in surrounding communities.
