The time of the year is here for The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit to partner up with the Royal Park Hotel and unveil a larger-than-life gingerbread installation to the public.

The ceremony will be held in the lobby of the boutique hotel on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 10 a.m.

Visitors will be charmed with holiday music provided by the Salvation Army brass band, and will have the opportunity to support the Salvation Army of Metro Detroit's annual Red Kettle fundraising campaign by purchasing a paper mitten ornament for a minimum donation of $10.

The David W. Elliott Charitable Foundation is matching every paper mitten ornament purchased, times two, up to $5,000.

Guests are also encouraged to try decadent desserts and cups of hot chocolate that are available at Park 600 bar + kitchen and The Table.

The Salvation Army will receive $1 for each dessert purchased.

All the money raised will help families in northern Oakland County.

Ingredients used to create the giant gingerbread locomotive include:

  • 200 pounds of gingerbread mix
  • 40 pounds of shortening
  • 50 pounds of sugar
  • 200 pounds of fondant
  • 144 eggs
