Saginaw Township officer shot in face gives chilling account on police radio

(WXYZ) — Early this morning during a traffic stop, 48-year-old Saginaw Township police officer Jeff Koenig was shot in the face and in the arm.

He was still able to talk on the police radio, giving a description of the man who shot him, the vehicle he was in and where they were located.

Officer Koenig is a 16 year veteran officer. The shooting happened in a business corridor near the corner of Bay and Tittabawassee Roads.

The gunman was identified as 29-year-old Joshua Rosebush who was wanted for car theft and thefts of goods from cars.

The manhunt moved to Shiawassee County in the afternoon when police found Rosebush and shots were fired. Rosebush was injured and taken into custody.

Officer Koenig has been transferred to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor where he is said to be in critical but stable condition.

Members of the Saginaw Township Fire Department have created a Facebook fundraiser for hospital expenses for Koenig's family.
