The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit plans to install what they call the "world's tallest red kettle" this Friday in Cadillac Square.
The kettle will be about 56 feet tall and 24 feet wide, officials say. It will remain unlit until the organization's Red Kettle Campaign kick off on Friday, Nov. 16.
A brass band will play classic Christmas music while the kettle's 26,000 LED lights are tested.
The installation and light testing will take place Nov. 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Campus Martius Plaza.
This year, the organization's fundraising total is $8.2 million.
