Suspect in custody after shots fired at police

A suspect who allegedly fired shots at police officers has been taken into custody.

Police say the 17-year-old suspect was walking with another man when police spotted them and stopped them as part of an investigative stop. At this point, police have not said what was being investigated.

During the stop, the 17-year-old took out a gun and fired a shot at an officer. The officer returned fire. However, it is believed the suspect wasn't hit.

Details on when the suspect was taken into custody have not been released. The second man has not been captured.

The officer wasn't injured.

Police recovered a 9mm weapon.  

The incident took place on Lillibridge and East Canfield on Detroit's east side. Police locked down the area.

The nearby Timbuktu Academy of Science and Technology is also locked down.

Several police vehicles responded. No officers were injured.
