Semi-tractor-trailer found transporting stolen vehicle in Van Buren Township

Police are investigating after a semi-tractor-trailer was found to be transporting a stolen vehicle in Van Buren Township.

Police say that on Oct. 21, a citizen called Michigan State Police regarding his stolen vehicle that had a GPS tracker involved. The owner was able to tell the dispatcher the location of the vehicle.

The vehicle was initially believed to be traveling under its own power on the freeway in Van Buren Township. However, troopers saw a semi-tractor with a car hauling trailer; police saw the stolen vehicle's registration plate on the trailer and made a traffic stop.

Police say the driver is a resident of Long Beach, California. He told police he recently purchased the tractor-trailer and was en-route to Belleville to pick up another vehicle. Police say an inventory search of the tractor resulted in the recovery of approximately $10,000.00 cash.

A 2020 Dodge Charger reported stolen out of Warren P.D., a 2017 Dodge Challenger reported stolen out of Detroit P.D., and a 2018 Dodge Charger reported stolen of Southfield P.D. were recovered.
