DETROIT (WXYZ) — A trailer carrying 38 cows overturned on the westbound I-94 ramp to southbound I-75 Monday afternoon, according to Michigan State Police.
The trailer lost control and overturned around 3:10 p.m., a preliminary investigation found. Just after 6 p.m. crews were still in the area doing clean-up.
MSP troopers are currently waiting for a replacement livestock trailer to arrive on the scene from Albion to transport the animals. Police say the animals that were injured will need to be euthanized.
UPDATE: Workers continue to move the cows from the overturned semi into the new trailer. They are now cutting a second hole to get the rest. It's unclear if the truck driver suffered injuries.
The freeway is expected to remain closed for several hours, with lanes expecting to open up around or after midnight.
