(WXYZ) — Strong storms are in the forecast as the heat and humidity build later today.
A few showers or storms are possible in the afternoon, but the risk of severe storms will be higher after 8 p.m.
Here are the potential impacts:
1) Damaging gusts 60-70 mph could knock down trees and cause outages.
2) Flash flooding is possible as some areas could get 1" to 2" of rain overnight.
3) Hail up to 1"
4) Slight risk of a tornado
There are several key factors as to how this is going to play out.
The remnants of a complex of storms heading east from Wisconsin and Illinois may bring some showers and a few thunderstorms to Metro Detroit by 4 or 5 p.m. If we get some of that rain, it would lower our chance of strong storms later in the evening.
If we remain dry until after 8 p.m., we will have a higher threat of damaging wind gusts from storms moving through SE Michigan tonight until 2 a.m.
If you're going to be outside this evening, have a plan and know where to seek shelter if a storm does roll in. Know where to go in your home if there is a thunderstorm or tornado warning, and avoid any windows.
