SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Shelby Township Police Department is warning people about scam calls going around with scammers posing as Shelby Township police officers.
According to police, they are calling residents, identifying themselves as police officers and asking for money for either donations to the department or for costs and fines.
Police want residents to know that neither the department nor the local Fraternal Order of Police do not fundraise over the phone. Also, they don't accept payments for court costs over the phone.
If you get one of the calls, they urge you to hang up immediately and report the call to the Federal Trade Commission.
