Shooting reported in Shelby Township parking lot

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — Shelby Township police are investigating a shooting in the parking lot of a business on Monday afternoon.

According to police, it happened in the lot located near the intersection of 23 Mile and Shelby Rd.

Police say there is no threat to the public at this time. 7 Action News has learned the suspect and victim are cousins.

We're told the two men met at the CVS and were discussing money when the victim pulled out a gun. The suspect then pulled out his weapon and fired shots at the victim, striking him.

The shooter is in custody and cooperating with police, claiming self defense. The shooter is the one who called 911 and said he shot the victim.

The victim is in critical condition.
