Purses and watches and dresses - oh my!
Many of us follow our favorite brands on Instagram and we can sometimes get drawn in by picture perfect products. But when it comes time to buy, we find ourselves going to another site or app for more information.
Now, the social media service want to make the process more streamlined.
The company announced in a blog postthat it will begin testing out a new kind of shopping experience. Citing research that shows more than 84 percent of smartphone users in the nation research products on mobile - Instagram says it wants to help potential shoppers learn more about the items in posts.
Next week, the company says it will begin a trial phase that allows certain retailers to share interactive photos.
Here's the breakdown:
With these posts, select users will have the ability to tap a view icon to see names and prices of products. An additional tap on the tag will then take users to a post with more details.
Mind you, this happens all within the app.
If an Instagrammer finally decides to buy a product, hitting a shop icon will reportedly take them directly to the item listing on that company's website. A move that will surely make ordering a lot easier.
Instagram says this shopping feature allows for the retailers to tag five items in each post.
Twenty brands will test the feature including Kate Spade and Warby Parker -- and a select group of people on iOS will initially be able to see the new experience until a broader rollout, according to the company.
