Child returned safe, father in custody following Southfield Amber Alert

SOUTHFIELD (WXYZ) — UPDATE: A father is now in police custody after an Amber Alert was activated following a custody dispute between the father and mother Monday afternoon in Southfield,

The father is now being questioned after turning himself into police. CPS is also investigating.

Southfield police are investigating a domestic dispute that may have lead to shots being fired.

The incident happened in the parking lot of the Metropolitan Professional Center, 16000 W. 9 Mile Road, around 1:45 p.m.

A mother and father were having a custody dispute over their 1-year-old when shots were fired. It's unclear at this time who the shooter was, but no one was injured by bullets, police say.

The toddler is currently with the father, and police are searching for them. However, there is no indication that the child is in any danger, police advise.

An Amber Alert was issued in search of 1-year-old Jaliyah Ford. The vehicle police are searching for is a black Chrysler 300 with license plate number: EGA6057
