A number of roller coasters at select Six Flags parks are getting a high tech makeover.

The combination of virtual reality and roller coasters could change the way we experience theme park rides.

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation has partnered with Samsung to debut what they are calling the first virtual reality roller coasters in North America.

Nine Six Flags coasters in a number of their parks across the country will be equipped with Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus.

Riders wearing the headsets will be immersed in a 360-degree VR world while feeling the twists, turns and drops of their favorite coasters.

Six Flags says in a press release that the technology will start to roll out to the coasters this month and into the summer.

On some of the rides, there will also be an interactive gameplay component which will give riders the chance to use virtual weapons.
