November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month and the Michigan-based Sky Foundation will host its annual lunch fundraiser this weekend.
The event -- which takes place at the MGM Grand Detroit on November 6 from noon to 3 p.m.-- is meant to raise awareness and funds for early detection research.
"I was sick for almost a year before my diagnosis," said nine-year pancreatic cancer survivor and founder of the Sky Foundation, Shelia Sky Kasselman.
Symptoms of the disease can be hard to spot.
"There's a lot and not everyone has all of them -- which is tricky," said Co-chair of the Sky Foundation's 8th Annual Lunch Benefit, Mary Beth Castorri.
Kasselman joined Castorri on 7 Action News this morning to talk about the event.
"It is a very tenuous disease, so that's we're trying to raise awareness," said Castorri.
