Early Tuesday morning a van was driven into a liquor store on the 5300 block of Tireman Avenue. Police tell 7 Action News the van used to crash into the building, and eventually steal a number of items inside, is the same van that was stolen from a dry cleaners last week.
A number of items were taken in the latest smash and grab including lottery tickets, liquor and cigarettes. Police believe the crash happened around 1 a.m. It’s unclear at this time whether the thieves were captured on camera.
The van was stolen last week from Perfect Cleaners on Detroit’s west side. At the time, the owner of that dry cleaning business said that the thief, or thieves, threw a large chunk of asphalt through the window to gain access to the building — at the time there was a lot of concern because the van had a number of police uniforms inside that belonged to both the Farmington Hills Police Department and the Novi Police Department.
According to police, all of the Farmington Hills police and fire uniforms were recovered. The uniforms were found by a passerby a few blocks from Perfect Cleaners.
As for the latest smash and grab, the owner of the business told 7 Action News that his store has been broken into more than a dozen times. Police are still investigating.
