SOUTH LYON, Mich. (WXYZ) — South Lyon East High School is mourning the loss of one of its football players after he unexpectedly died following complications from knee surgery.

Trevon Tyler was a junior offensive lineman on the team.

He suffered a torn meniscus during a game with Milford in week 7, and he passed away on Friday.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support his family. More than $17,000 has already been raised.

His family is also asking the community to tie white ribbons around trees in his honor.

"He wasn't just a player respected by his coaches and teammates he was a friend and student loved by so many here at South Lyon East High School and in the South Lyon Community. More importantly, he was a son, a brother and loved family member. He will be missed by his family, teammates, coaches and everyone who was blessed to have known him."
