'Sparty' vandalized on MSU campus

Posted

"Sparty" stands at the corner of Kalamazoo St. and Chestnut Rd. on the Michigan State campus.

He’s clean now, but that wasn’t the case Friday morning.

ESPN College GameDay host, Rece Davis tweeted out a picture of the vandalism.

It appears to be a blue and gold UM and some fraternity letters.

The apparent attack by University of Michigan students is not sitting right with students in East Lansing.

"I mean I am really upset about it, Sparty is like our main man, why would you disrepect him?” said freshman, Trey Burke.

"It's crazy, this isn't even us vs. them, so just wait until that game,” said freshman Lindsey Hood.

No one knows why the statue was targeted for this game, but students have some guesses.

"Our tradition is the marching band, every night during the week of the U of M game they will take shifts. Coach D will bring them pizza and they will sit out all night to prevent U of M fans from doing that so we don't really get why they did it for this game... maybe it's because they are feeling a little irrelevant?” said senior, Ben Labadie.

Either way, Sparty is now restored and looking good for GameDay.
