The White House announced Thursday that the U.S. plans to accept 10,000 Syrian refugees in fiscal year 2016, and Michigan could be a good place for some of them to make a new start.
David Murray, a spokesman for Governor Snyder's office, says the governor believes Michigan should be a welcoming state.
He notes that Michigan accepts about 4,400 refugees a year, and that the number is determined by the federal government.
"We are open to working with the federal government to see if there is a role that Michigan can play to help provide relief," said Murray.
