STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) — A Sterling Heights man is facing charges after a Craigslist deal went south.
Police say on Feb. 5, officers were dispatched to the parking lot of Bed Bath & Beyond on Hall Road on a report of an unarmed robbery.
The victim told police he made arrangements to meet a potential buyer of a cell phone that he listed on Craigslist. Upon meeting the suspect and showing him the phone, the suspect then snatched the phone from the victim and ran off.
Police located the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Rodrick Mitchell, not far from the scene of the crime.
Mitchell has been charged with Larceny and Assault & Battery.
The Sterling Heights Police Department wanted to remind the public to use caution when attempting to sell any items online, and meeting unknown people in public to sell those items.
Police recommend finding a safe location like a police department lobby to finalize those transactions.
