A track student from Ida Middle School has died after running in the 400-meter dash.
Superintendent Richard Carsten says 13-year-old Jasmin Torres was not feeling well after she ran at Tuesday's meet against Hudson.
"Jasmin participated in volleyball basketball and track and has been active and pretty vibrant within the school so we certainly would've seen something like this coming," Carsten says.
They decided to call an ambulance. She was taken to a hospital in Adrian.
Carsten says she was getting better and they thought she was going to be fine. Later that night he says things turned for the worst and she passed away.
"Jasmine has a vivacious smile when she walks through the hallways and you see her on the competitive services she's often times the center of attention within her group people are attracted to her because she's positive and energetic and really enjoyed life," Carsten says.
Torres played basketball and volleyball this year with no issues. Her family has lived in Ida for over 20-years and she is one of five siblings.
"My response would be just to ask for extra prayer the extra prayer and guidance from the community in the greater population to be with the Torres family," Carsten says.
The cause has not been released yet.
