(WXYZ) — Michigan drivers are among the best in the country, according to a study from QuoteWizard, an online insurance comparison marketplace.
Michigan was ranked the number one state for best drivers. It received the honor due to fewer citations, speeding and fatalities than last year.
In addition to Michigan, other good driving states were Mississippi, Oklahoma, Arizona and Illinois. The worst driving states are Maine, South Carolina, Nebraska, California and North Dakota.
The final rankings are a sum of weighted means calculated from total accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs, citations and fatalities.
WXYZ spoke to Michigan drivers and found out they are skeptical of the compliment.
Sarah Stempky Kime, an attorney with Christensen Law says there is a flaw in the study that could skew results.
"The glaring defect in the study was that it did not take into account uninsured drivers and in Michigan one in five drivers are uninsured," said Stempky Kime.
