Update on November 10: The Troy Police Department has arrested 38-year-old Joseph Louis Carter in connection with the armed robbery
—
Troy police are searching for a man who they say walked into a gas station with an AK-47-style rifle last week and demanded money from the clerk.
Watch Jolie Sherman's video report:
Police say the incident happened on Oct. 30 around 2:19 a.m. at the Shell Gas Station on Rochester Road.
According to police, the man demanded money from the clerk at the gas station before taking off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police say the suspect was wearing a black ski-style mask, black hoodie, black and gray gloves, blue sweatpants, black tennis shoes and armed with a black and gray AK-47-style rifle.
“This is why we put the video out there because we want the public’s help. Given the time and day, there’s not a lot happening at 2:20 in the morning. So now that the public is aware, maybe there’s something that they saw that day or that evening or earlier that morning, that didn’t make sense at the time, but maybe it does now," Troy Police Sgt. John Julian said.
No injuries were reported, but police say they are putting extra patrols on area businesses open in the overnight hours.
“Very disheartening for this to happen, and we’re just fortunate that no one got hurt,” Julian said.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Troy police at 248-524-0777. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is getting involved and offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the suspect's arrest.
“Luckily, the audio is pretty clear in the video. You somewhat make out his facial features from above the mask, so we’re hoping someone out there knows his voice, recognizes him and can help us locate him so we can place him under arrest,” Julian said.
