A 21-year-old Detroit man is facing fleeing and eluding charges after leading police on a chase through Hazel Park and Ferndale.

It happened on March 8 around 8:30 a.m. after Freddie Pickens was stopped by Hazel Park police for a traffic violation.

Pickens reportedly fled during the traffic stop in the Kia he was driving. Hazel Park police chased the vehicle through neighborhoods, but Pickens was able to escape.

A short time later, a Ferndale officer spotted the car at a red light near Wanda Street and 9 Mile as another officer approached from the east on 9 Mile.

The officers attempted to make the traffic stop when Pickens sped off again. He jumped out of the car as it was still moving near Symes and Breckenridge and ran off. The car slowly crashed into a street sign.

Pickens ran through yards and jumped fences until he was finally caught on the 1900 block of Leitch.

He was arrested and charged with Fleeing and Eluding and driving with a suspended license. He was arraigned and bond was set at $5000.
