Detroit police have arrested a suspect who was allegedly seen illegally dumping tires on a vacant lot on the city's west side.

According to a police report, 40-year-old Karondi Hernton was taken into custody on Nov. 9 after an officer observed his black Ford Explorer with a large trailer filled with tires heading west on Grand River without a license plate.

The officer followed Hernton to a vacant lot in the area of Grand River and Jefferies.

Allegedly, Hernton exited the vehicle and began dumping tires from the trailer onto the lot.

Hernton was also arrested for driving with a suspended license. He was taken to the Detroit Detention Center and his vehicle and trailer were impounded, which comes with a $1,000 violation.

Police say Hernton was later released on pending charges and further investigation.

Hernton faces five counts of scrap tire violation involving 50 or more tires. He was arraigned on these charges Dec. 3, and issued a $10,000 bond. A pre-trial date has been scheduled for Dec. 10.
