HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) — A suspect who was trying to avoid a traffic stop by police was halted when his vehicle crashed into an abandoned house in Highland Park.

The brief police chase began Monday morning when Michigan State Police with the Metro South Post noticed a vehicle on McNichols Road near John R Street, cut another vehicle off by quickly turning in front of it from the wrong lane. That incident caught the attention of a trooper.

When the officer got ready to stop the car, the suspect proceeded to take multiple turns down various streets in an attempt to lose the police. When the trooper caught up with the vehicle, the officer saw that the suspect had crashed into the front of an abandoned home at 87 Church St. in Highland Park.

The suspect was still inside his vehicle when the trooper arrived, and surrendered by throwing his hands in the air. He was arrested without incident, police say, and only had a minor injury to his left hand. The suspect was transported to a local hospital by Michigan State Police for treatment.

Officers later learned that the suspect had a felony warrant.
