DETROIT (WXYZ) — The man arrested in Richmond, Virginia following a shooting at a Detroit senior home in November, was arraigned in 36th District Court Thursday.

James Fleming, 69, was charged in connection with the fatal shootings of Kenneth Darnell Hall, 50, and Bernice Clark, 66, both of Detroit.

Following his arrest in Virginia, Fleming was transported back to Detroit. He is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of assault with intent to murder and six counts of felony firearm. Fleming also is charged with one count each of kidnapping, criminal sexual conduct second degree and felony possession of a firearm.

The shooting occurred at the Philip G. Sims Senior Apartments on Dickerson on Nov. 13.

Police say at approximately 9:10 p.m., Detroit officers responded to a shooting at the senior housing complex in the 800 block of Dickerson. When they arrived, officers discovered Kenneth Hall, who was a security guard at the building, with a gunshot wound outside of the apartment building. The second victim, Bernice Clark, also sustained a gunshot wound and was found unresponsive in the apartment's first-floor hallway. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 30-year-old woman who was visiting Fleming alleged that she was sexually assaulted by the suspect on the same evening as the double homicide. She was able to escape the apartment and report her attack, police say.

Fleming was a resident of the building.

Before the shootings, police say an argument ensued resulting in a physical altercation. During the altercation, the 30-year-old woman ran outside while being followed by Fleming.

At some point, Fleming returned with a gun, allegedly firing several shots and striking two victims. He then fled the location.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for Dec. 21 and a preliminary examination is scheduled for Dec. 28. Fleming has been remanded to jail.
