(WXYZ) — The Taylor Police Department is asking for the public's help to identify a man who they say is posing as a DTE Energy employee.

Police say the man, who is described as being around 40 years old, has made his way into homes in the area and stolen money and jewelry.

According to police, in one incident at a home on Mortenview Drive on Jan. 29, the man talked his way into the home of an elderly resident, saying he was with DTE. He then reportedly told the victim he needed to turn off her power and asked if she lived alone. After luring the woman into her basement to turn off the circuit breaker, police say he asked her to stay there while he went upstairs. It was then that he allegedly stole thousands of dollars worth of cash and jewelry before leaving the house.

Police say the man wore a tan face mask and drove a small silver truck.

If you have any information regarding this individual, you are asked to call Taylor Police at 734-287-6611. Police say to dial 911 immediately if you encounter this man.
