Taylor police say a 16-year-old girl sitting in a car was accidentally shot by a backseat passenger while they were at a Little Caesars on Saturday night.
According to police, the 19-year-old Taylor resident was playing with a gun in the backseat when it accidentally went off, shooting the girl who was sitting in the front seat.
She was shot in the left hip and transported to the hospital. Her injuries are not life threatening and the driver was not harmed.
The teen, identified as Chasity Kleinsorge, was released from the hospital Sunday. Her mother tells 7 Action News she is thankful the incident didn't end in worse circumstances.
"Thank God she is here and we're able to have this conversation," Jessica Patterson said. "Not in a million years would it have been my child - you don't think."
According to police, the 19-year-old does not have a CPL and was taken into custody. It's not sure if they are facing charges.
