DETROIT (WXYZ) — An 18-year-old driver is dead after driving off the roadway, up an embankment and crashing into a tree Sunday morning.
According to Michigan State Police Metro South Post, at 10:40 a.m. the car being driven by the 18-year-old was traveling on I-96 near W. Chicago when the crash occurred. No details have been released regarding what may have caused the car to lose control before the fatal crash.
When police arrived on the scene of the crash, the 18-year-old driver was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Police say there were two other occupants in the vehicle. One passenger was unhurt and the other had non-serious injuries.
Eastbound I-96 has reopened to traffic. The investigation is ongoing.
