The Detroit News is making history.

For the first time 143 years, the newspaper is endorsing a presidential candidate who is not from the Republican party.

The Detroit News is endorsing libertarian candidate Gary Johnson. The paper’s editorial board believes Gary Johnson "most aligns with their views."

The Detroit News made its announcement overnight, explaining that main reason for the change is the Republican candidate Donald Trump. The paper calls Trump "unprincipled, unstable and quite possibly dangerous.”

The decision will be considered controversial by some, especially given the fact that Gary Johnson has been in the news lately for all the wrong reasons. First, for not knowing that “Aleppo” is a town in Syria under siege -- and for the latest slip-up on MSNBCwhen he was unable to come up with an answer on favorite world leader.

Now. this endorsement by the News is not the first time it refused to endorse a Republican candidate.
Back in 2004, the paper chose not to endorse George W. Bush or John Kerry.
