I-75 drivers rejoice! Just over two months after the Modernize I-75 project resumed, taking north and southbound I-75 down to two lanes, MDOT says three lanes of southbound I-75 will be open beginning next week.
MDOT says the three lanes of southbound I-75 will open by 5 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2 between M-59 and Coolidge Highway. It is the beginning of the final stage of construction on phase one of Modernize 75.
Beginning Saturday, July 29, both directions of I-75 will have intermittent single-lane closures so that crews can open two lanes of traffic on the new southbound pavement.
After that, crews will spend the rest of the weekend through Tuesday placing temporary barrier walls on the southbound side of the freeway.
Ramp closures will continue that include:
- The Adams Road entrance ramp to northbound I-75,
- The Adams Road ramp to southbound I-75,
- The northbound I-75 exit to westbound Square Lake Road,
- The eastbound Square Lake Road entrance to northbound I-75, and
- The eastbound M-59 ramp to southbound I-75.
The ramps are expected to remain closed through September.
