Greektown shooting victims: We were caught in the middle

Posted

New details have emerged in the Greektown shooting outside of a party bus in downtown Detroit early Sunday morning.

According to police, the party bus was parked near Congress and St. Antoine around 1 a.m. when a suspect, described as a black male wearing a white shirt with black sleeves, walked up and opened fire.

We're told the incident stemmed from a fight at a nearby bar. Victims say they were caught between two groups who were arguing.

Jaylon Calhoun, 23 of Detroit, was shot in the ankle and has a graze wound to the left calf. Brittany Oliver, 28 of Ferndale, was shot in the right thigh and 22-year-old Shanyelle Jones of Oak Park suffered graze wounds to both of her legs.

After his release from the hospital, Calhoun told 7 Action News he was an innocent bystander, near the bus when the gunman opened fire.

"I was trying to put up the hands...they just wanted to shoot," said Calhoun.

Jones, we've learned, is now at home recovering from her injuries while Oliver remains at the hospital.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them. They say they are reviewing surveillance video in hopes of catching the shooter.
