Thrifting is a way of life but if you've ever been to Thrift on the Avenue in Midtown, you know it's not your typical resale store.
“We believe you don’t have to break the bank to look fabulous. People are here 20 minutes before they realize it’s a resale store. We really wanted to offer people a good place to shop without having to spend thousands of dollars,” says co-owner Christopher Prater.
The store has Gucci, Prada and Cole Haan to name a few popular brands. But, it also has items that are more moderately priced.
“I get a rush when someone asks me what am I wearing and I tell them I got it from the thrift store,” says Tanisha Prater, who owns Thrift on the Avenue with her husband, Christopher.
The idea: high fashion, low prices.
“It used to be you’d be the butt of the joke when you said you shopped at a goodwill, but now it’s more culturally acceptable,” says Christopher.
Thrift on the Avenue is located at 4130 Cass Avenue in Detroit.
