Thursday's Top 7: Metro Detroit's Best Parks

In our Thursday's top 7, we spotlighting the best activities, event and places across Metro Detroit. This week we're looking at the area's best parks.

From hiking to horseshoes and boating to ball field, the options abound when the great outdoors calls

#1 Dodge Park

Kristen Brown of Sterling Heights says her first visit to the newly renovated dodge park was more than she expected.

"I was so shocked that all the new things that they have to offer not just with a splash pad but with the playground area and just the basketball courts and the volleyball courts. It was so so exciting for the kids to see."

And it's that wow factor that propelled Dodge Park in Sterling Heights to the top spot in our viewer poll of the best parks in Metro Detroit. It has great paths for biking and walk. There are also new playgrounds for the kids, fresh new courts for basketball and volleyball courts, new mini soccer fields to practice your foot work, too. And then there is the splash pad. The place to be on hot summer days.

We caught up to Steve Lindsey walking his dog. He gives the improvements a big thumbs up. Lindsey says "The improvements are really nice especially for the little kids and everything".

#2 Belle Isle - Detroit

Detroit's Belle Isle comes in the number two spot. The nearly 1000 acre island park is home to the Belle Isle Aquarium, The Dossin Great Lakes Museum and the Belle Isle Nature Center.

#3 Stony Creek Metropark - Shelby Township

Number 3 is Stony Creek Metropark in Shelby township. Stony Creek offers everything from bike rentals to an afternoon of boating and swimming in 500 acre Stony creek lake. The park also shines for winter sports.

#4 Kensington Metropark - Milford

Milford's Kensington metropark comes in fourth place. The nearly 45-hundred acre parks surrounds Kent lake. It also offer boating, swimming, golf and so much more.

#5 Campus Martius - Detroit 

At number 5 is Detroit's Campus Martius.. the city's marquee public space. Campus Martius is home to an urban beach & in the winter an ice skating rink. Food trucks are just a  few steps away.

#6 Heritage Park - Farmington Hills

Heritage Park in Farmington Hills comes in 6th place. Miles of trails great for hiking and enjoying nature. Heritage Park has a day camp and amphitheater.

#7 Lake St. Clair Metropark - Harrison Township

And at number 7 is Lake St. Clair Metropark in Harrison Township.  It's great for biking, hiking and skating & boating. The trails take you right along the shore of lovely Lake Saint Clair.
