Fans checking out the Toledo Zoo this winter and into next year will get a chance to see the newborn baby gorilla born last week.
The zoo announced on its Facebook page the healthy birth of Mokonzi, a Western lowland gorilla, born overnight from Thursday, Nov. 23 to Friday, Nov. 24.
Mokonzi, pronounced Moh-khan-see, means governor in Swahili. It was the third baby for its mother, 23-year-old Kitani, and fifth for its father, 29-year-old Kwisha.
The zoo said Mokonzi is healthy and bonding well with his family.
He will be on exhibit indoors at the Kingdom of the Apes beginning Wednesday.
