Eastbound I-94 was shut down for the original crash, and the man that was ejected was taken to Henry Ford Hospital with serious injuries.
The on-scene investigation has since been completed and the freeway has reopened, MSP tweeted.
The second crash in the westbound lanes was a head-on crash involving the wrong way driver and another vehicle traveling the correct direction on the freeway.
The female driver of the non-at-fault vehicle was pronounced dead on scene by Detroit Fire & Rescue personnel. The at-fault driver suffered injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
Westbound I-94 was shutdown for an investigation and has since reopened.
The investigation continues in both of these crashes, according to MSP.
