Troy Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a "party bus" that occurred on northbound I-75 south of Adams Sunday morning around 3 a.m.

The bus, occupied by 24 passengers, was stopped on the shoulder due to a mechanical issue when it was struck from behind by a 2003 yellow Pontiac Sunfire traveling on the shoulder.

The passenger in the Pontiac Sunfire, a 22-year-old male, was killed as a result of the crash.

The driver of the Sunfire, also a 22 year old male and the only other person in the car, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.

Eight people on the party bus were injured and taken to St. Joseph Hospital, Pontiac, for treatment.

While the crash remains under investigation, it appears that alcohol and/or drugs may have been a factor.

Witnesses are asked to contact the Troy Police Department at 248-524-3477.
