TROY, Mich. (WXYZ) — A metro Detroit subdeacon has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a teenage alter boy.

Hurmiz Ishak, 66, of Sterling Heights, was found guilty of one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

He was found not guilty on two other charges.

Bishop Francis Y. Kalabat released a statement regarding Ishak's guilty verdict, saying that the allegations brought against the subdeacon were brought to the church's attention in October 2018. Ishak was immediately reported to the authorities and removed from his position as a result.
