GARDEN CITY, Mich. (WXYZ) — Brown water is possible in Garden City this summer due to water main work, according to the police department.

Work in the areas of Maplewood from Hubbard to Merriman, Sharon from Maplewood to Elizabeth and Gilman from Maplewod to Cambridge could result in brown water in these neighborhoods.

Officials say the affects may not be limited to these areas.

Residents are urged to check their water before doing laundry if you live in one of the affected areas and to avoid doing laundry at all if you see any discoloration in your water.

Running your faucets if you see brown water will eliminate the problem. The water is not harmful, according to officials.
