INGHAM COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) — Ingham County Sheriff's deputies say two children were killed and their father seriously injured in a crash on I-96 Friday night.
On March 8 around 9 p.m., deputies responded to eastbound I-96 just east of Zimmer Road in Wheatfield Township for report of a single vehicle crash.
A 29-year-old Romulus man with his two children – a 9-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter – in the car was driving east on I-96 from Grand Rapids when the crash occurred, police say.
Witnesses said the driver was traveling aggressively and attempting to pass vehicles on the shoulder of the highway. Police say the father lost control of the vehicle, leaving the roadway backwards and striking a tree with the rear of the vehicle.
Both children were in the backseat and died at the scene of the crash, deputies say. The father was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs here.
The investigation is ongoing.
