University of Michigan students are protecting the "block M" on the diag at the university ahead of the Michigan versus Michigan State game on Saturday.

A canopy was placed over the diag as students sat on couches with food and drinks. Around 5:30 a.m. Friday, it was members from the Theta Xi fraternity protecting the block M.

Two years ago, someone spray painted a green and white MSU over the block M ahead of the game.

It's a tradition every year during the week of the big game, students tell 7 Action News, and MSU students are likely defending the Sparty statue on their campus.
