(WXYZ_ — "Avaricious" – that was the winning word from this year's Scripps Regional Spelling Bee.

There were 73 spellers who competed Sunday at the Charles H. Wright Museum in Detroit, and 12-year-old Frank Salzeider took the trophy.

Salzeider is a student at the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy. The runner up was 12-year-old Zaara Noor, who attends Davison Elementary and Middle School.
